EXP 2 - Final Submission

Strategy Statement
The Strategy I undertook in re-modelling the Barcelona Pavillion was to design it as though it was located in an eye of a horrific storm. I took into consideration of extreme weather conditions which may factor destruction such as high winds, buckets of rain pouring down, hail, rough sea conditions and tree's and loose objects getting swept away. In using 3ds Max i was able to model the building with an effective destructive outcome. The textures i used were moderatley clean and un damaged. most of the damage was all undertaken in crysis with decals and firepower to collapse the building.

Travertine
Travertine is a sedimentary rock composed of calcite (Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate - CaCO³), it's noticeably softer than limestone and is nearly impossible to keep a shine. Travertine gets a lot of bad press for being a fragile material, but at the same time the 'Trevi Fountain' in Rome is made from Travertine and it's been there for over 300 years.

Pros - Huge range of patterns and colours, feels soft under the foot.
Cons - Has a tendency to scratch and stain.

Glass
The most common type of glass is 'Soda-lime Glass' which is used in windows and drinking vessels. It is composed of about 75% Silica (SiO2) plus Sodium Oxide Na2O and several minor additives.

Pros - Glass can practically last for ever if untouched.
Cons -  Glass can easily be shattered, scratched and chipped once another object is pressed against it.
- Glass also has no structure capability in supporting any other structure elements apart from its own.

Red Onyx
Onyx is a banded variety of chalcedony. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Commonly, specimens of onyx contain bands of black and/or white.

Pros - Onyx is a lot like marble in the durability category. It lasts a long time if it is taken care of
Cons - it is abit softer than marble so its surface can get scratched pretty easily.
- It also has a tendency to stain pretty easily also.

Note: As you can see in image 2, certain faces of the exported object didn't
come through to the Crysis environment. However i managed to fix this problem by selecting individual faces and allocating the correct number of a material to the face.

Barcelona Pavillion
The Barcelona Pavilion was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This building was used for the official opening of the German section of the exhibition. It is an important building in the history of modern architecture, known for its simple form and its spectacular use of extravagant materials, such as marble, red onyx and travertine. The same features of minimalism and spectacular can be applied to the prestigious furniture specifically designed for the building.

House at Bordeaux
The House at Bordeaux was designed by Rem Koolhaas for a particular client who had been recently paralyzed from the waist down. The building is secluded with an open view of the court yard with a unique disabled access for the disabled man and his family. It uses a strong use of contrasting elements from heavy steel and concrete elements to clear and translucent glazing.

Rudin House
The Rudin House was one of the earliest works of Herzog & de Meuron, conducted for the art gallery owner Hanspeter Rudin located in a village at the limit of France and Switzerland. At first glance one might say that the shape and external appearance is a very typical home, as we imagined a house in our childhood: the waters of two roof, windows and doors and a great big fireplace. The roof is nothing more than a roof, walls, and both are simple walls forming a single plane where they have perversely doors and windows.

EXP1 Final Submission

1x Strategy Statement

The way I concealed and revealed my letter and number combination of 'Z' and '0' into my island landform from the macro to the micro was by arranging vegetation in the shape of Z's and 0's, paving a pathway which when walked on would seem like an ordinary path but the trail is shaped in the formation of a 'Z' and '0'. Finally the entire perimeter of my island is shaped in a '0' with a river entering from one boundary of the island and forming a 'Z' with a body of water through the middle of the island. I found these methods concealed the 'Z' and '0' when up close but from a distance is rather noticeable.
